How a reading is actually computed

Every reading starts with an ephemeris — the actual positions of the planets, computed for the moment you read it. We compare those positions against the chart of your birth and keep the contacts that are close enough to matter, measured as an orb in degrees. Then we search forward for the day each contact is exact.

That is why a reading here can say Mercury trine your natal Mars, 0.4 degrees, exact Thursday, and why a sun-sign column cannot. The column knows one of twelve things about you. The engine knows where everything was when you were born, if you tell it.

Four readings run on this engine — what is moving in you, in your work, in your money, and in your relationships. Civic, Timing, and Circle sit on the same sky.

We do not guess where the planets are. Positions are computed in-process, then checked against NASA JPL Horizons. The Moon image in a reading is NASA's Scientific Visualization Studio Dial-A-Moon frame for that day. Eclipse context uses NASA GSFC's five-millennium catalogs. Civic can name a solar flare or geomagnetic storm because NASA DONKI recorded it.

You get a real reading the moment you enter your birth date — your sun sign, working from the first tap. No quiz, no blank slate, nothing locked behind a wall.

Then it deepens. Your birth date alone already sharpens the read well past your sun sign — for free. Your exact birth time and birthplace open a fuller reading: your Moon and rising sign — your emotional world and the way you meet a room — coming into focus. More of your story means a sharper picture, and you decide how much to share.

Here is the part most horoscope apps will never say out loud: nobody can read your future off a sun sign. A chart can name what is moving. It cannot tell you what you will do with it.

So we do not pretend to. We will not sell you a 98% certainty or a promise about your future. Astrology here is a lens for insight and self-discovery. An app honest about its own limits is one you can actually trust with the rest.

Two-chart reads are for people you already know — a parent, a co-founder, a partner, a close friend. Circle keeps an ongoing private reading for each named person. You bring the chart. We never go looking for strangers.

The method is still synastry: how placements in two charts relate, the way an astrologer reads a pair rather than a sun-sign label. "What's your sign" is the shallowest version of that. The real reading has texture a sticker cannot see.

• You name who. Circle is private, one person at a time, labeled by you. We do not store their contact details.
• Two charts in conversation. Sun, Moon, Venus, Mars, and rising when the birth details are there — not a flat row in a sign-pairing table.
• A language, not a verdict. A challenging aspect is something to work with. It is never a red light on a person.

We cannot predict your future. What we can do is name what is actually moving in your chart this week — and measure whether a reading was specific enough to use.

Because we steer toward that one honest signal — did the reading name a real transit, and did it help you think — Zoë is built to sharpen as more charts are read. A sharper chart, not a louder horoscope.

Your reading runs on details that stay yours. Your exact birth date, birth time, birthplace, and precise location are never shown to anyone. They stay behind server-side rules, not a policy you have to take on faith. Zoë is for adults 18 and older.

And the core is free forever: the four readings and all 62 tools — always, no catch. We never paywall a reading you already have. Timing and Circle, plus richer chart detail and unlimited Ask Zoë prompts, are included.

• Private by design. Sensitive birth and location details power your reading without ever being exposed.
• Free forever. The readings are free at the core. Nothing gates them.
